  a relaxing vacation by
Martha V from Walnut Creek, CA Sailing date: Apr 2008Pros: The crew was the best! Consistently friendly, courteous, helpful, and pleasant Cons: I had several insect bites when I would get up in the mornings; maybe from the bedding. The ship's decor was garish and the entertainment dancers were not very good The best thing about the ship is the crew. Ship QualityThe ship feels small because the public areas are cramped with rather garish decor. The ship appears to be very clean and the crew seems to be very hardworking. However, some of the furnishings, especially the dining room chairs are a bit worn. Dining/FoodThe food was mostly good and sometimes even above expectations. There were some items that were average and one that was totally unacceptable. The room service menu was limited especially for breakfast. Stateroom QualityThe room was beautiful and clean, however, I woke with insect bites several mornings so I can only assume the bedding had some kind of infestation. Ship Staff QualityThe crew consistently went above and beyond. The cabin steward made sure our every request was fulfilled with speed and efficiency. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe nightly shows were mostly good, the comedians were very good and the magic show was too. The dancers costumes and the sets were great, but the skills of the dancers was only average or below. Not too many activities that included hand crafts, lots of fun games though.

La Paz, MexicoHad a fabulous experience snorkeling with sea lions! The water was seriously cold and the excursion supplied wet suits, which was a new experience for me. It was memorable, however, the tour guide (American) could not communicate with the crew (Mexican) and i think that is potentially troublesome. I speak English and Spanish fluently and I know the tour guide often told the crew and captain some things that they did not comprehend and vice versa. We saw some wonderful sea life-it was a real thrill.
Don't Miss: snorkeling with sea lions! Mazatlan, MexicoThis was a charming place! Great shopping. The Mexico show was very colorful, but the quality of the performance was average or below average.
Cabo San Lucas, MexicoI did the Sea of Cortez snorkel and was distressed because there were three cruise ships in port so it was really crowded. But the excursion ship was very good and the crew was excellent. They gave us a really substantial snack that was very tasty and just right. The shopping at the Mercado was good.

  The Unfortunate Cruise by
George P. from Boston,MA. Sailing date: Jul 2007Pros: The Celebrity Cruises Cons: The Carnival spirit With some hard work maybe they can compete. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodYou did not have to gues what you will have for breakfast, it was the same every day,as for diner when the Captain dring pelagrino and every body else tap water you are wondering if he know something we dont. Stateroom QualityThe bathroom light was not working and the cabin attentant told us to leave it on all the time, briliant. Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & ActivitiesWhen you have the guest as actors 5 out of the 7 days takes the fun out of it,as for the rest the play elevator music on all other areas. 4 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

  FOR FIRST TIMERS ONLY by
Dana H from Salem, Oregon Sailing date: Jun 2007Pros: Friendly staff....most of them Cons: Food, food service, embarkation, glacier viewing BACKGROUND: 50 yr old male traveling with my 11 yr old son and 9 yr old daughter. I have cruised Princess 4 times, Disney 2. Kids have taken Disney 3.
Embarkation: Suite renters are told to report to the VIP desk for immediate service.....NO SUCH DESK. We stood in line with hundreds of others for 45 minute to 1 hr being herded here and there like cattle.
SHIP: Done in very dark tones, Only bright spott on the shipp was the casnio.
FOOD: First timers will say fair to good. Having traveled other lines I would say it lack a great deal. Do you like scrambled eggs that should be served in a cup? Carnival is attempting to save money by having everything portioned out to you. Not at the buffets of the other lines.
CAMP CARNIVAL: Is definately and after thought by Carnival. There attempt to "compete" with Disney. The room is shoved under the front of the ship. HOT and STUFFY. The hours of operation are worked around the crew staffs availability and luch hours. I spent most my time retreving my daughter so that they could go eat.
ROOMS: We booked room 7298 at the back of the ship. I guess the deck is was made it a suite. It was in fact twice as big as most. The lay out could have been better. A changing room should actually be removed. It is unusable with three doors entering into it.
Entertainment was "acceptable" More for the kids would have been nice.
In room TV is 1/2 commercials for Carnival owned lines, 1/4 weather and direction charts and 1/4 stations pulled in from Colorado
GLACIER VIEWING: On previous cruises the captian took the ship within 2 miles of the Glaciers. You could see and here them fall apart. On the Spirt the captian parked the ship 6 miles away( they said so) from the Harvard Glacier. You could not hear them or see them fall. We then waited 1 hr while they lowered a tender to allow crew members to sail in to with in 1/4 to 1/2 mile from a glacier to take pictures. WHAT'S WITH THAT? This devastated my son who was looking forward to seeing what I had been telling him about for years.EMARKATION: went quickly and smoothly as they already got what they wanted out of us. In fact that is one of the jikes the cruise director uses. "Got any more money? No? Then you got to get off the boat!
Debarkation when off quickly......they already had your money! Ship QualityTo dark, to much required zigging and zagging in the hallways to go around elevators and employee closets. Dining/FoodPortion very small, requiring you ask for more. Do you like scrambled eggs service in a cup because they are so "wet"? Stateroom QualitySuite was called suite because of deck size Ship Staff QualityAll but for one photographer, they really tried. Always with a smile or a greeting in the hall way. Entertainment & ActivitiesCould definately use more than caryons and coloring books in the Camp Children's ProgramsCovered

Ketchikan, Alaskaplenty of tours. We took a semi-submersible and view sharks. Topside revealed bald eagles glore. Did you know they mate for life and if one dies the mate dies shortly there after?
Skagway, AlaskaGold Fever Tour allowed kids to try their luck. YES they did retreive sum. In 30 minutes Son obtain $14 worth and daughter got $10.06. Of course it cost me $30 to get their gold placed into small vial necklaces.
Sitka, AlaskaAll parties had to be tendered to shore. Most stayed on board.

Second cruise on the Carnival Spirit by
Natalie S from San Diego, CA Sailing date: Feb 2007Pros: Great ship, service and cruise Cons: Food quality in the restaurant second time did not seem great. They need new better head shef. It was our second cruise on the Carnival Spirit. Ship is amazing. Lots of fun stuff to do. Food quality is going down on Carnival. Food was not testing as good as it should of. They defenately need new head chef there. Food on the Princess is much better. But in general it was all fine. Great entertainment. Especially the Hipnotist show was hillarious. Pools with the salty water - probably from the ocean. Not crowded at all. The big improvement in bedding and white robes in the room.
Women's steam room did not work through the entire cruise. Sauna looked more like a storage room and when I requested to clean it up for me, it caused some confusion among the staff. It was not heating up as well anyways. Spa was not inviting anymore comparing to my last Spirit jorney. I was expecting to go there every day and as a result did not go anymore. Giganting water slide did not work also.
They always have lots of things to do. Otherwise, we love this ship. Ship Quality

TIM M from SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA Sailing date: Mar 2006Pros: the nightlife, relaxation and the family fun Cons: its to short Sailed on the sprit of the Seas for the first time and I can say is it was awesome. We had no idea what to expect. A fantastic new experience and the nightlife made the stress from work just fall away after just the first night out to sea and the karaoke club helped bring the nights to a great end I felt like I was living a different life .We really like waking up early just to have breakfast and then hit the decks by the pool and Jacuzzis on a different part of the ship each morning and the new friends we made each day were great, we can see in there faces that they were so excited also. The Two dining areas that my wife and I loved were the main dinning room, dress elegant or comfertable elegant were really excellent and the breakfast on the deck was very nice and looking out to sea and sunlight. all week we could not wait for each and every day to start so we could experience something new again and the shops were a pleasure to spend for some needed things and things that just we just wanted to get just to remember the trip and something that was surprising was that it was our wedding anniversary trip to get to know each other again and when we mentioned that to the crew working the gift shop were giving drinks to celebrate and the main guy in the shop gave my wife a rose but said it was from me . Oh and the staff of the dinning rooms were so great always catering to us like we were stars or something and the steaks and lobsters were fantastic or did they just taste better because of the relaxed and stress free life happening on the cruise. I wont go further because im no wrighter but wrighting seems easy when you talking about something that is so awesome. Ship Quality

  Great cruise by
Nadine E. from Las Vegas, Nevada Sailing date: Apr 2006Pros: The food, and the gambling. Cons: Not as much activities during the day as other ships I have been on. The ship was very nice, the outside made it look old, but when you walked on the ship it was clean. I really like the gym the way it was set up. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodTHe food was great! They had a 24 hr pizza bar that my daughter who is 11 really enjoyed. Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff QualityTHe staff treated us special. Our waiter and busboy were great. The entertainment during dinner from the waiters was awesome. Everyone on the ship was very nice and we really enjoyed spending time talking to them. Entertainment & ActivitiesI have been on another line and I think the entertainment was better on that line. They need to work on the entertainment.

  What a fantasy!!!! by
Linda Williams from Cape Cod, Massachusetts My son, his friend, my friend and I went on an 8 day southern Caribbean cruise on this ship in February 2004. What a fantasy!!! It couldn`t have been better. Dinners were our favorite - we looked forward to our waiters Reynold and Agapito (they were the best!!) the food was out of this world, then entertainment after that, either one or two shows a night. The pools and jacuzzis were great. All the staff were exceptional. The excursions were lots of fun. We went to Little Divi Beach in St. Martin, and a catameran/snorkling adventure in Barbados - well worth the cost. Michael, the cruise director went out of his way to get to know us, the casino was fun (though we didn`t win). The disco was fun, though not many people dancing. We enjoyed every single minute of this trip and spent hardly any time in the cabin. We highly recommend this ship and look forward to traveling again with Carnival. This was truly a trip of a lifetime!! Don`t think we could possibly have a better time, but we will try again next year. 17 out of 19 people found this review helpful.
